OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 11: What Are the Major Updates?

The craze for Oneplus mobile devices is never less than that for Apple devices. And the good news for one plus lover: The OnePlus 12 will launch on January 23, 2024, as per OnePlus Benelux’s country manager, Alexander Vanderhaeghe, with a new extra feature. In this article, we will discuss OnePlus 11 vs OnePlus 12, or, as you may say, OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 11

OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 11: Looks

The OnePlus 12 has arrived with stunning hardware and design. Though not yet on Indian retailers, there is much anticipation around this latest flagship device from OnePlus. Comparisons between specifications and features may help users decide whether to stick with the current OnePlus 11 model or upgrade to the new OnePlus 12.

Design on the OnePlus 12 The OnePlus 12 closely resembles its predecessors in design terms, with the primary difference being an expanded range of colours. Both phones feature an oblong camera adorned with Hasselblad branding that fits neatly within their metal frames; however, lighting has been relocated away from its camera island on the left. Hasselblad branding has also been altered slightly, with just an H being used instead for an elegant finish. OnePlus 12 vs. OnePlus 11: Definitely, 12 will win.

OnePlus 12 Vs OnePlus 11: Display

OnePlus has long been at the forefront of display technology, and the OnePlus 12 follows this tradition with its brand new 2K 120Hz curved display manufactured by BoE that may seem similar to that found on earlier OnePlus flagship phones like the 11 and 16. However, its peak brightness can reach 4500 nits, while it also sports an angled punch hole cutout (rather than having it located on its left).

Protection-wise, the OnePlus 12 falls a little short of its predecessor in terms of protection. Where the OnePlus 11 featured Gorilla Glass Victus protection for drop resistance, the Victus 2 provides additional drop protection. The OnePluse OnePlusports an even larger 6.82-inch display and boasts a greater 91.3 percent ratio between screen to body area.

OnePlus 12 Vs OnePlus 11: Performance

The OnePlus 12 features Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, while the OnePlus 11 utilizes Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and based on printed specifications as well as synthetic benchmarks such as AnTuTu and Geekbench 6, its GPU and CPU are approximately 15%–20% more efficient compared to that of the OnePlus 11.

The latest chip featured on the OnePlus 12 also unleashes AI-generative capabilities, improves camera performance, and delivers energy efficiency improvements. Although these changes might not be noticeable during daily use, they make for a smoother experience when gaming or video editing.

Additionally, the OnePlus 12 marks an important milestone as it is the first phone from this manufacturer with up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of internal memory, which at least meets Chinese storage requirements. By contrast, its counterpart, the OnePlus 11 in India, only offers 16GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 11: Cameras

The cameras on the OnePlus 12 have seen significant enhancements. Now featuring three camera options—a 64 MP periscope lens, a 50 MP wide-angle lens, and a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle lens—the phone also boasts an upgraded selfie camera and a 32 MP camera for recording 4K video, unlike its 16 MP predecessor, which only allows 1080p resolution recordings.

The OnePlus 12 features a unique dual-layer stacked sensor designed to improve low-light performance and record videos using Dolby Vision format—something no other OnePlus device had been equipped to do until now.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 11: Battery

The latest OnePlus 12 features a larger 5,400 mAh battery, while its counterpart, the OnePlus 11, only holds 5,000 mAh of power. Both phones can charge 100W via fast wire, while the latter also offers 50W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging with 10W capabilities.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 11: The Price Factor

The OnePlus 12 is superior to the OnePlus 11, although much will depend on pricing in India.

While both phones may look the same, there’s one key difference. While both appear similar, the OnePlus 12 outshines the OnePlus 11 in virtually every area: style (better IPR rating), display (bigger and brighter), performance camera performance, as well as battery life, which makes the latest OnePlus 12 feel like an essential upgrade over its predecessor OnePlus 11 in almost every way, from battery performance and camera features to style (better IPR rating), camera and performance capabilities, and battery performance. It feels like an upgrade over the OnePlus 11, but with one drawback: its higher Chinese prices could begin reaching Rs 60k when launched sometime in January 2024.

OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 11: Extra Features

The OnePlus 12 boasts an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance in China, compared to an IP64 rating in certain markets, with no certified ingress protection in its Indian version of the OnePlus 11. Unfortunately, we do not know yet whether global versions will maintain such ratings as seen with Chinese models of OnePlus.

The most noticeable yet essential upgrade for the OnePlus 12 is an upgrade to its USB port. Support for faster data transfer can now occur using USB 3.2, compared to only supporting USB 2.0 wired speed when data was transmitted via the OnePlus 11. Keep in mind, though, that its weight has slightly increased, with 220 grams compared with just 205 for the OnePlus 11.

Is the OnePlus 11 still one of the best smartphones?

The OnePlus 11 may not be perfect, but it represents another giant step forward for the company. One year ago, we witnessed that its predecessor, the OnePlus 10 Pro, failed to find an audience outside its specific niche due to poor software experience and sky-high pricing, which ran counter to fan love for this company.

While its successor, the OnePlus 10T, served as an effective course correction and an impressive smartphone that wasn’t as premium as some rival models, this phone now sets OnePlus back on course and puts their business back on the right path.

Price matters when it comes to phone purchases, and starting at 55k for the OnePlus 11, only 4-5k more than their T-series phone is one key criterion for selecting any device. Although its design veers between boring and garish, its serviceability remains intact while its camera takes some impressive images without much effort.

An impressive display, incredible performance, and some of the longest battery life I’ve seen on any phone help make this device one of the best OnePlus devices released recently; although unlikely it may feel, if OxygenOS could receive some much-needed attention upon Android 14 release later this year, then maybe fans will start declaring them on a comeback run?
